Following some intermittent showers throughout the week in the Kinta Valley, the track on Friday was rated as yielding and should remain so if there is no further rain leading up to race time on Saturday.

The Saturday card of 8 races will feature the high grade Enrich Stakes A event (Race 3) where DAVINCI (3) will be on the quick six day back up from his third placing in the 1600m G1 Selangor Gold Cup. The 2018 Penang Gold Cup winner was suited by a generous tempo, coming from a rearward position in the cup before storming home but he may not be afforded that luxury in Saturday’s contest.

The speed map suggests there is not a great deal of early pace in the race and an on speed performer like HONGCHEN (4) could prove hard to beat. The 9yo has received market support in each of his six local outings, which includes two wins and the consistent performer has a good record over the mile (5 wins).

MULTIBLUE SHARK (5) has been competitive at this grade previously and should improve on his last start failure from the wide barrier draw in Penang three weeks ago. HUSSONATOR (6) aims for the hat trick and will be facing his toughest assignment to date. The 7yo has rapidly improved since joining the Richard Lines stable and is one for the trifectas. CAPTAIN JAZZ (1) is coming off a couple of group one races but can upset on best form despite not winning beyond 1400m.

The Sunday program features a 1200m Progress event (Race 3) and despite it being the smallest field of the day, the seven five year olds engaged have displayed potential in their brief careers. SACRED TONIC (4) is the likely favorite and looks on target of notching the hat trick. The New Zealand bred gelding is a reliable beginner and is suited by the small field.

However, GOLDEN TYCOON (1) drops in grade following an encouraging 4th in a Class 3 contest at Penang and boasts a handy record of 3 wins from 8 starts. All career victories have been at 1200m and the gelding will be hard to hold out. METALLOCENE (2) has been competitive at Class 3 grade and is expected to improve while SONNY BILL (5) and MODRIC (6) are recent winners and are worthy trifecta chances.

A good field will assemble in the 1000m Enrich Stakes A (Race 9) where TANNHAUSER (3), fresh from his 3rd placing in the G1 Penang Sprint Trophy, will prove hard to beat. The 6yo scored impressively at his Malaysian debut on July 7 and should win his share of races in the country. FAALTLESS (1), also relatively new to the Malaysian circuit, has not disgraced in four local outings and is due to break through. The 9yo has not won since September 2017 and is coming off placings behind NOVA MISSILE and TANNHAUSER in recent weeks.

NOVA MISSILE (4), successful at the track and distance last start, has drawn well and will settle on the speed again. With a couple of fast beginners in the race, the 6yo will receive all the favors from gate two. SEBAS (5) is the likely leader from barrier one and will strip a lot fitter second up from a spell while LAUS DEO (6) drops back from Group company and back to a more favorable journey.

The Shane Edwards trained filly, XENA (6) gets her chance to break the Maiden tag in Race 8. The 3yo will line up against some older rivals but her only two starts have yielded placings behind handy types, SACRED TONIC and ALJAWHRA. Newcomers, MAI DARKO (5) and GOLDEN ROOSTER (9) have both displayed potential in their respective trials and should win races in the near future. ASIA has been an improver recently while EMIRATES WARRIOR (3) has the benefit of race experience and was sharpened up with a trial win earlier in the month.
