Equine Hospitalisation Services
Herd-health program (HHP)

Ensuring optimal health conditions for the entire horse population. Horses are vaccinated, dewormed and have dental checks routinely.
Lameness investigation

As professional athletes, horses are prone to sports-related musculoskeletal injuries, which includes injury to the bones, joints, tendons and ligaments. A lameness examination and investigation is warranted to find out the cause of lameness/unsoundness.
Therapeutic shoeing

We work closely with farriers to achieve proper foot dynamics and corrective shoeing.
Pre-purchase examination

We provide pre-purchase physical examination, x-rays and endoscopic examination of the upper respiratory tract.
Diagnostic imaging

Accurate diagnosis requires state-of-the-art equipment to achieve greater treatment success.
a)Digital x-rays
b)Ultrasound
Endoscopies

- Overground endoscopy
- The gold standard for diagnosis of upper airway diseases which compromises racing performance. Real-time images can be obtained whilst the horse is working.
- Videoendoscopy
- Diagnosis of upper respiratory problems affecting racing performance.
- Gastroscopy
- For detection of gastric ulcers, which is a common cause of poor body condition in racehorses.
Surgery

- PRTCEH is recognized as the premier equine surgical centre, performing up to 100 operations a year.
- Both orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries are performed regularly.
- Soft tissue surgeries
- colic surgery
- upper airway and sinus surgery (entrapped epiglottis, tieback and hobday)
- Surgery of eyes
- Reproductive (castration, rig operation, caslick’s)
- highlight: PRTCEH is the only surgical facility in the country that is able to perform a tie-back procedure to correct horses with airway dysfunction. This technique is adapted to be done standing, thus improving the surgical anatomical presentation and reducing anaesthetic risk in the patient.
- Orthopaedic surgeries
Many fractures are repaired using screws and plates. The majority of joint surgeries are done arthroscopically.

Various treatment modalities are offered to ensure soundness and peak performance for our racing athletes.
